Life and Art
Kathe Kollwitz, 1867 - 1945
Pencil on canvas
unknown size

Kathe became an artist during the time period of the World War II, and her family struggled to keep her in school, and alive. Her father was a scientist and was almost always active and never around the house, and she eventually became depressed, and expressed her feelings through her art, she drew herself doing things, or just sitting there, in many different ways, She though of herself as a very ugly person. As you could guess this effected her art tons, she drew herself uglier and uglier, more and more depressing. Most of her latest art is shaded with her hiding, just as this one is, actually this one is her latest peice of art. She never made anything besides pencil and paper, never sclupted, painted, etc. I think this is so because it was earlier in time and maby she couldn't afford or get anything besides the pencil and paper.

Unkown Chinese artist
The entire Japanese art of Origami 1797-2008(still done today)Not just the picture, but the form of origami.
Almost any form of paper, or any size.
China, Japan, specficily the Shona Art Museum in Japan, which conceeds of mainly origami or scluptural designs or patterns.
The chineese started making Oagami to make their paper money more valuable, the different signs or designes made the paper worth more. It is really cool, because you can make tons of stuff from just a simple piece of paper, and the Japaneese built entire museums to present the different Origami sculptures. The Japanese word Origami translated to Eglish means "Paper and Folding".

Mary Balian(Armenian)1939-2008(still alive today)

Ceramics of Jerusalem1991

Ceramic tiles 75x45cm

Mardigian Museum of Armenian Art, Armenia

I chose this piece because it is standard Armenian Art, and i am have part Armenian culture, and that is mainly why i chose this peice, to show my different culture.

Mary chose to make art like this after she traveled to Armenia to study her hertage in 1991, and mixed the art of Armenia with her thoughts on her religion, and did this many times with different books, thoughs, and art related museaums she has been too. She really likes all forms of art, and has made many books, some on specificley her and other armeanian arts.

daniel johnston(American) 1961-2004
HI, HOW ARE YOU 1983
Marker on canvas
Unknown location

Daniel sufferes from mental difficulties, and expresses himself through art and music. He has an entire website about his music and art, and i chose this because of the person who made the picture, not the picture itself. i just think its cool caz he expresses himself through his art, although it may not be understood by many people. But his art is famous(musical art and physical art) becuse of him, not as much as the art.
